أَفْعَل – example: كْبير -> أَكْبَر

أَفْعَى – example: قَوي -> أَقْوَى

أَفَلّ – example: قَليل -> أَقَلّ

In case of any adjective above you can say the adjective + أَكْتَر مِن (more than) and that will work too (although it’s of course better to know the proper forms). Some of the adjectives always use this comparative form (see the table below).

Examples – phrases

My little brother is taller than me. أَخوي الصّغير أَطْوَل مِنّي akhuy eS-Sghiir aTwal minni

Her hair is longer than mine. شَعْرْها أَطْوَل مِن شَعْري sha3rhaa aTwal min sha3ri

Your car is more expensive than mine. سَيَّارْتَك أَغْلَى مِن سَيَّارْتي sayyartak aghla min sayyarti

This dress is more beautiful than that one. هاد الفُسْتان أَحْلَى مِن هَداك haadal-fustaan aHla min hadaak

The cat is smaller than the dog. القِطّ أَصْغَر مِن الكَلْب el-qiTT aSghar min al-kalb

The weather today is colder than yesterday. الجَوّ اليوم أَبْرَد مِن امْبارَح el-jaww el-yoom abrad min imbaaraH

Coffee is better than tea القَهْوة أَحْسَن مِن الشاي el-qahweh aHsan min esh-shaay

English is easier than Arabic. الإنْجليزي أَسْهَل مِن العَرَبي el-injliiziy ashal min el-3arabiy

He runs faster than Omar. بِرْكُض أَسْرَع مِن عُمَر birkoD asra3 min 3omar

This house is bigger than mine. هاد البيت أَكْبَر مِن بيتي haadal-beyt akbar min beyti
